New studies: measures to be taken against Corona-spread prevented millions of Deaths in Europe

The Covid-19-pandemic keeps the world in breath. Already, more than 6.9 million people have been infected worldwide with the novel pathogen, Sars-CoV-2 – 184.110 of them in Germany. 400,000 people died from Covid-19 already.

Studies: measures to be taken against Corona-spread prevented many Deaths

The measures to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus have been prevented, according to analyses alone, in eleven European countries until the beginning of may, approximately 3.1 million deaths. The large-scale Lockdown, velvet border closures, contact block and school closures have allows for a better control of the pandemic-history, reported by a British research team led by Seth Flaxman from Imperial College London (United Kingdom) to the analysis of the death figures in the magazine "Nature". If current trends hold, there is reason to hope.

To 6. April would have prevented the actions of some 530 million infections alone in six countries, reported a second team of researchers, also in "Nature". They had analyzed the course of Infection, up to this date in China, South Korea, Italy, Iran, France and the USA. “I think, no other human endeavor has ever rescued in such a short space of time so many lives,” said study leader Solomon Hsiang of UC Berkeley (USA).
