High blood pressure is a common condition that affects more than 25 per cent of all adults in the UK. But you could lower your risk of developing hypertension by simply taking daily garlic supplements, it’s been claimed.
Hypertension puts extra stress on blood vessels and vital organs.
Eating an unhealthy diet or not doing enough regular exercise could be raising your chances of high blood pressure.
But, you could lower your chances of developing the condition by taking supplements, scientists have claimed.
One of the easiest ways to lower your blood pressure is to regularly take garlic supplements.
Garlic is widely-regarded as a top food to improve heart health.
It has previously been claimed to lower cholesterol, which subsequently protects against heart attacks.
Scientists have now revealed that taking garlic extract supplements every day could also lower blood pressure.
The capsules could lower systolic blood pressure by around 10mmHg over a 12-week period.

“Garlic supplements have been associated with a blood pressure lowering effect of clinical significance in patients with untreated hypertension,” said Karin Ried, from the University of Adelaide, Australia.
“Our trial, however, is the first to assess the effect, tolerability and acceptability of aged garlic extract as an additional treatment to existing antihypertensive medication in patients with treated, but uncontrolled, hypertension.”
But, you should only take garlic supplements after speaking to a doctor, the scientists warned.
They could interact with existing blood pressure medication, they said.
