NASA reports that a blood moon occurs when the Earth sits directly between the moon and the sun. “When this happens, the only light that reaches the moon’s surface is from the edges of the Earth’s atmosphere. The air molecules from Earth’s atmosphere scatter out most of the blue light. The remaining light reflects onto the moon’s surface with a red glow, making the moon appear red in the night sky. Just how red it will look is hard to predict, but dust in the atmosphere can have an effect,” the space agency said of the upcoming event. In addition, the moon is also named the “flower moon,” as it draws its title from the flowers that come with it in the Northern Hemisphere’s spring season. Of course, the celestial event may also impact the zodiac, especially if you’re a fire sign.
